Sustainable Forestry has been a Home Depot strategy for over 30 years.
Over the years, we have encouraged our suppliers to understand and practice sustainable forestry throughout the world. We pledged to give preference to wood that has come from forests managed in a responsible way and to eliminate wood purchases from endangered regions of the world. Today, we have broadened our focus to understand the impact of our wood purchases in all regions and to embrace the many social and economic issues that must be considered in recognizing endangered regions of forests.
North America
Forest lands increased by 247,000 acres (2010-2015). Approximately 90% of our wood products come from here.
South America
The Majority of our wood from South America is from pine and eucalyptus plantations in the southern regions. We will not accept wood products from the Amazon Basin Forest unless FSC-certified beginning September 1, 2018.
Europe
Forest lands increased by 988,000 acres (2010–2015). Europe has seen a steady increase in forest lands in the last 100 years due to national legislation, afforestation and natural expansion. Less than 1% of our wood products originate from here.
Africa
Less than 1% of our wood products originate from here. We will not accept wood products from the Congo Basin Forest unless FSC-certified beginning September 1, 2018.
Asia
Forestlands increased by 1.9 million acres (2010–2015). Approximately 3% of our wood products originate from here.
Oceania
Forest lands increased by 741,000 acres (2010–2015). Less than 1% of our wood products originate from here.
