Our Greatest Impact
The Home Depot’s biggest environmental impact is the products we sell. We work with our suppliers to address global environmental concerns in products including carbon emissions, water scarcity, air quality, waste and more. In 2007, we founded our Eco Options program, now branded Eco Actions, to recognize the best of these products through stringent criteria in 6 key product categories: energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable forestry, healthy home, clean air and circular economy.
In addition to our Eco Actions program, we have a unique responsibility in two key environmental impact areas: forestry and indoor air quality. In 1999, we established a Wood Purchasing Policy to help avoid wood products coming from high conservation value forestlands. And in 2017, we published our Chemical Strategy to encourage the exclusion of key chemicals of concern from paint, flooring, insulation, household cleaning and paint removers.
Our policies and products addressing forestry and indoor air quality impacts, organic gardening, energy- and water-conserving products, and more are outlined here.
