According to the EPA, we are spending about 90% of our time indoors – and some air pollutants can be 2 to 5 times higher than typical outdoor concentrations.

Our efforts to help our customers have healthier indoor air quality include offering the best air filters that remove particles even as small as 1 micron (for comparison, a human hair is approximately 100 microns). Air filters are the unsung heroes of healthy indoor air quality and changing them every 3 months can save about $100 a year in energy costs for the average home. Air purifiers are increasingly important, and ENERGY STAR®-certified units are 40% more energy-efficient and can save $220 over the product’s lifetime.

We have been working to improve indoor air quality through products we have identified as having the greatest impact on indoor air quality including paint, insulation and flooring. In 2017, we published a chemical policy banning key chemicals of concern from these product categories. We recognize GREENGUARD Gold certification on several of our adhesive products and are proud of the investments our suppliers are making in ensuring their products are optimal for contributing to healthy indoor air quality. Finally, we have partnered with the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council (GC3) since 2014 to advance the adoption of green chemistry and safer alternatives to advance the adoption of sustainable products.
