At The Home Depot, having a positive impact on forests goes beyond the wood we source from them. It means looking beyond the shelf to the forests and communities that make our products possible.
That’s the thinking behind the Reforestation Conservation Initiative, a shared commitment between The Home Depot and three strategic lumber suppliers: Arauco, Irving Forest Products and Weyerhaeuser. Together, the partners are working to distribute at least five million tree seedlings by 2032, contributing to the restoration and conservation of approximately 10,000 acres of forestland. To put that scale into perspective, that’s an area equivalent to 12 of New York’s Central Parks, or about 8,000 football fields.
Healthy forests play a critical role in supporting biodiversity, protecting watersheds, improving air quality, storing carbon and sustaining rural communities. Through this initiative, The Home Depot and its supplier partners are combining resources, expertise and regional knowledge to advance meaningful conservation outcomes, each supplier drawing on the woodland and forestry practices specific to where they operate. Lets meet the three partners helping bring this initiative to life.
Arauco

Every Arauco product sold at The Home Depot connects back to our broader sustainability strategy and responsible forest management framework. Arauco puts sustainability at the center of its decision-making. Caring for natural resources, people and communities is part of their business model. This approach helps them build a strong, resilient business that can continue delivering value to their customers over the long-term.
Beyond this Initiative
In Chile, where Arauco owns and manages forestland, Arauco supports additional native forest restoration and biodiversity work, including:
- 1,211,147 acres of native forests under conservation in Latin America, with approximately 726,490 acres of conservation areas in Chile
- 1,335 threatened species protected
- A commitment to restore 61,776 acres of native forest in Chile by 2050, with 24,592 acres already restored or under restoration
- FSC®– and PEFC-certified forest management and chain-of-custody systems
Irving Forest Products

Irving Forest Products is one of North America’s leading producers of lumber and value-added wood products and a division of J.D. Irving, Limited, a diversified, family-owned company with operations spanning forestry, forest products, transportation, shipbuilding, agriculture and consumer packaged goods. Sustainability is central to how the company manages its forests and runs its manufacturing operations, guided by science-based forest management practices, biodiversity conservation and wildlife habitat protection.
“We’re pleased to partner with The Home Depot on an initiative that supports reforestation and responsible forest stewardship. Every seedling planted is an investment in the long-term health of our forests, the communities that rely on them and the next generation that will inherit them. As our company’s CEO often says: When we work together and take care of the forest, the forest takes care of all of us.”
– Jerome Pelletier, Irving Forest Products
Beyond this Initiative
Through the broader J.D. Irving, Limited Forest Supply Chain, the company’s sustainability commitments include:
- Growing more wood than is harvested each year
- Regenerating 100% of harvested areas through planting or natural regeneration
- Maintaining third-party forest certification across all managed lands

Weyerhaeuser

Weyerhaeuser Company is one of the world’s largest private owners of timberlands and one of the largest manufacturers of wood products in North America. The company began operations in 1900 and today owns or controls more than 10 million acres of timberlands in the U.S., along with additional public timberlands managed under long-term licenses in Canada. Sustainability has been fundamental to its operations for more than 100 years.
“This initiative fits naturally with how Weyerhaeuser sustainably manages millions of acres of North American timberlands and provides an important opportunity to support forest restoration in areas that have been devastated by wildfire. We’re looking forward to contributing seedlings to the project and working closely with Home Depot and our planting partners at American Forests to establish healthy, thriving forests for the next generation.”
– Brian Chaney, Senior Vice President of Wood Products, Weyerhaeuser
Beyond this Initiative
In 2020, Weyerhaeuser launched its current 10-year sustainability strategy focused on maintaining a strong foundation of ESG performance, strengthening the integration of sustainability into key business processes and demonstrating positive impact in support of climate action, sustainable homes and rural communities.
By working together, The Home Depot and its supplier partners can scale their impact beyond what any one organization could achieve on its own. Each participating supplier brings its own geographic footprint and forestry expertise to the table, enabling restoration and conservation efforts across multiple regions.
