Windows and doors are one of the biggest factors in how well a house holds onto its heating and cooling, which is why we look to manufacturers like Andersen Windows to keep raising the bar. Since we last featured Andersen’s sustainability story in 2023, there’s more real progress to share.
Cutting Carbon Across its Operations
As part of The Home Depot’s push to build a lower-carbon supply chain, we ask our partners to drive their own sustainable action. Andersen is a great example of a supplier taking meaningful sustainable action in their own operations. Andersen’s facilities have transitioned to LED lighting, which avoids more than 1,400 metric tons of carbon a year, and five Andersen facilities in Minnesota are powered by 100% renewable electricity through Xcel Energy’s Renewable*Connect program.*

Andersen has also made significant progress in reducing waste. By the end of 2025, more than 1,700 employees at its Bayport, Minnesota, headquarters and largest manufacturing facility had been trained on waste sorting, helping divert more than 70 million pounds of material from landfills in a single year.
Materials that Do More
The Home Depot supports sustainable materials, and Fibrex material, the main component of Andersen 100 Series windows, is a strong example. Fibrex material is a composite made with 40% reclaimed wood fiber by weight, and since its invention, Andersen has prevented the harvesting of more than 145 million board feet of lumber. Fibrex material is also twice as strong as vinyl and has 80% less embodied carbon than vinyl, reducing the carbon footprint of a window before it ever reaches your home.
What to Look for When You Upgrade
If you’re shopping for new windows and doors, three things matter most: energy efficiency, materials and longevity. ENERGY STAR-certified windows and doors can, on average, cut energy bills by up to 13% nationwide. Materials like Fibrex bring recycled content and a lower carbon footprint. And a window and door built to last means fewer replacements down the road.
Windows and doors are one of the largest components of your home’s envelope, the outer shell that separates conditioned indoor space from the outdoors. A weak point there means your heating and cooling system has to work harder to keep up. From a lower-carbon composite material to a growing renewable energy footprint, Andersen keeps finding new ways to build sustainability into that envelope, one window and door at a time.
That commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2025, The Home Depot recognized Andersen as its Environmental Partner of the Year.
