This year, The Home Depot achieved milestones in its energy efficiency, water conservation, packaging innovations and renewable energy initiatives. Dedicated to making sustainability accessible, The Home Depot continues to empower customers and communities to make choices that benefit their budgets and the planet.

2024 Sustainability Achievements

• Energy Efficiency: Our customers’ purchases of ENERGY STAR® products significantly reduced annual electricity use by 3.6 billion kilowatt hours. This saved customers $355 million on energy costs and lowered carbon emissions by 2.5 million metric tons.
• Water Conservation: Our customers’ adoption of WaterSense® products resulted in a reduction in water consumption of nearly 29 billion gallons. This collective effort translates to savings of more than $613 million on water bills.
• Packaging Innovations: The Home Depot took a proactive step towards sustainability by successfully excluding harmful materials like expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film from our private-brand packaging. Approximately 280 private-brand packages were redesigned to reduce size and materials – eliminating more than 39 million square feet of PVC film.
• Renewable Energy: By forging a strategic partnership with Georgia Power, The Home Depot secured enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 70% of the annual electricity needs for our Store Support Center (corporate office). This commitment to clean energy aligns with our broader sustainability goals.
• Industry Recognition: The EPA honored The Home Depot with multiple prestigious awards for our leadership in sustainability:

• Energy and Water Savings: We aim to empower our customers to save an additional $600 million on energy costs and reduce water use by 100 billion gallons by 2026.
• Sustainable Packaging: We’re committed to transitioning to compostable, recyclable or recycled content packaging for all new private-brand fiber packaging by the start of 2027.
• Plastic Reduction: We’re on a mission to reduce or convert 200 million pounds of plastic to more sustainable materials in our products by 2028.
• Battery-Powered Future: The Home Depot aims to have 85% of U.S. and Canadian in-store and online sales in push mowers and handheld outdoor lawn equipment powered by rechargeable battery technology by 2028.
